Urn burial vaults are a new option for urn burials and an alternative to columbarium and cemetery grove. Urn burial vaults are monuments made of natural stone, into which ashes of the deceased are placed.

An urn burial vault allows continuing family burial traditions in case of cremation, since the ashes of even several dozens of people can be placed into a single monument. The ashes are contained separately inside the vault, which emphasizes the dignity of the ceremony. Urn burial vaults also allow continued use of cemeteries where no room remains for contemporary ways of burial. Additionally, parishes can utilise areas incompatible with other forms of burial. Ash vaults may also be placed on private land, by permission of the provincial government.
